I painted this using acrylics on canvas. It's a Christmas gift for my daughter's best friend. I can't wait to see her face when she opens it. Please comment. I'd love to hear what you think of it.

At my school we have started to use "I Can" statements with all of our lessons. These are to help keep the students as well as us focused on the goal of the lesson. Here are a couple of the I Can statements that I have been working on. I have a lot more that I need to get pictures of. These are based off of Kindergarten standards for art in Ohio.
At first, I thought that making these was going to be a real waste of my time. But they really do help keep the focus of the lesson. I also have a lot of fun designing the posters and drawing the pictures to go with them. I can't wait to finish more and share them with you.

This project was a lot of fun to do. I made this example to use with 4th grade. Start by finding the center of the paper and drawing as many lines as you would like through the center point. Then in each triangle you draw curves alternating the curves up or down all the way around. Offset the curves a little bit so that they look like folds in a fabric would be hiding the line as it continues around the curve. Choose 2 colors of colored pencil. I chose to use complimentary colors.

Start with one triangle and color the space closest to the center lightly. The next space up is left white and repeat the pattern until you get to the top of the triangle. Go back to the center and shade the edges of the triangles darker than the center slowly fading in as you go.

Repeat with each triangle as you go around alternating colors. I mounted it on black paper to provide a little more contrast and make the colors pop.

Welcome to my blog page. This is a place that I will share lessons that I have done in my room as well as tips and ideas.
This is a lesson that I am doing with the second graders. It is based on Mondrian. The students use glue to draw the ground, trees, and sun. Then once the glue is dry, they color the spaces using the warm and cool colors to fill it in with chalk pastels. After the main colors are added have the students add a little bit of white to the tips of the ground lines to add some highlights. Be sure to spray the drawings with workable fixative or hairspray to help prevent smearing.
